Tree care specialist inspecting the trunk of a mature oak in Houston

Trunk inspection, hypoxylon check

A woman in Bellaire almost paid another company $4,200 to remove a live oak that "looked sick." It had iron chlorosis, a nutrient problem, roughly a $250 fix. Two growing seasons later it's the greenest tree on her street. That's what certified tree care means to us: diagnosis before demolition.

Sick Tree Diagnosis

Thin canopy, early leaf drop, dieback at the tips, oozing bark, mushrooms at the base, sawdust trails: every symptom is the tree telling you something, and half the time the something is fixable. We diagnose the common Houston culprits, hypoxylon canker on stressed oaks, bacterial leaf scorch, root rot in our poorly drained clay, iron chlorosis in alkaline pockets, pine bark beetles, and give you a straight answer about whether treatment makes sense or the money is better spent on removal and a good replacement.

Feeding Trees in Gumbo Clay

Houston's famous gumbo clay holds water like a bowl and compacts like concrete, and tree roots hate both. Deep root fertilization injects nutrients and air into the root zone under pressure, which does more for a struggling tree here than any amount of surface fertilizer. It's the single most effective treatment we offer for the tired-looking mature oak that "just isn't what it used to be." Fall and early spring are the windows.

Prevention Beats the Chainsaw

Pine bark beetle prevention sprays for the loblollies still worth defending. Root barrier guidance when a young tree's roots are heading for the foundation or the pool shell. Cabling and bracing for the beloved old live oak with a weak fork, done with proper hardware, not a lag bolt and a prayer. Pre-construction consults so the builder's lull doesn't kill the keeper trees. And honest second opinions: at least once a month we're called to quote a removal and end up saving the tree instead. Sometimes the answer is a $200 treatment, not a $3,000 takedown, and we'd rather keep you as a customer for twenty years than win one big invoice.

Every assessment comes as a written report with photos, useful for HOAs, insurance and that one neighbor who insists your healthy pecan is "definitely dying." Worried about a specific oak? Start with our oak care page, or just call and describe what you're seeing.
